Cleanup projects

The following optional non-library-specific retrospective projects are opportunities for cleaning up the database and thereby improving the quality & reliability of user access, if you have the available time and manpower to do so.

Contact CCS Member Services if you need help compiling a list of records that need editing or want to know more about what a particular project involves. Additional cleanup tasks are listed in the Learning Portal.

  • Add 347 fields to Blu-ray+DVD, DVD+CD, etc. combo pack records
  • Add 257 field to video records for country of production
  • Change tagging of genres from 650 to 655
  • Add newly created genre terms & subject headings to applicable older records
  • Delete "duplicate" 007 fields
  • Delete "duplicate" 505 fields
  • Add 753 and possibly also 347 fields to PC games & other software
  • Add subject & genre headings to older records that currently have none at all
  • Change fictitious character headings from 650 to 600
  • Fix typos in ISBNs & ISSNs, or move them to 020 |z
  • Fix records that have a Date Cataloged but are still marked "Preliminary" in the 099 field
  • Check & when appropriate fix or remove records that are still marked "Preliminary" in the 099 field but were created more than a year ago.
  • Fix records that are still marked "Preliminary" in the 099 field but have items out and circulating
  • Add 006/007 fields to AV records that lack them
  • Remove e-book ISBNs from print records and print ISBNs from e-book records
  • Fix records that have a Date Cataloged but no data in the 300 field.
  • Check & when appropriate fix records with questionable nonfiling indicators
  • Remove Serial Holdings records that are still present after the library's last copy has been removed
