An e-Book reader (that is, the physical equipment, such as a Kindle, Nook, or other tablet computer) is cataloged following the rules for creating a generic record (such as using a Title Control Number of x, the library's 3-letter code, and a unique identifier, e.g. xEAKNOOK003), with these exceptions:

Records are entered in the format for visual materials (VM).

The record must have these fixed field element values:

Rec_Type: r (three-dimensional object)
Bib_Lvl: m (issued as a single item)
Type: r (three-dimensional object)

The General Material Designation (GMD) for e-Book readers in CCS is [realia (electronic equipment)]
