The 856 field, Electronic Location and Access, contains information required to locate and/or access an electronic item, usually a URL (Uniform Resource Locator).

Add/Retain:

  • URLs for a reproduction of the cataloged work or the information in it
  • URLs for resources that relate directly to the resource cataloged
  • URLs for vendors that other CCS libraries use

Delete:

  • URLs for cover images, excerpts, tables of contents
  • URLs for non-CCS libraries
  • URLs for vendors no CCS library uses
  • links to commercial propaganda, advertising, pages for popular CDs or movies
