When items are attached to an incorrect or obsolete serial record:
When items are attached to an incorrect or obsolete serial record:


* Send e-mail to all libraries that own items attached to the obsolete record, explaining the situation.
* Email all libraries with items attached to the wrong bibliographic record, explaining the situation.
* The cataloger creating the new serial record has the option to move other libraries' holdings or not, but the cataloger must communicate with other libraries in any case.
* The cataloger reporting the issue has the option to move other libraries' items or not, but they must communicate that to the others.
* Always add the appropriate ‡z to the call number(s) before moving any holdings, and be sure that ‡z contents in the call number(s) conforms to the patterns established in the CCS database.
* It is a good idea to make sure call numbers have the appropriate volume information (conforming to any pattern established on the other record) before moving items.
* Always close out or remove your MARC Holdings record(s) on the obsolete record and add new MARC Holdings record(s) to the new record. Other libraries will have to do the same with their MARC Holdings records
* Make sure any serial holdings records are attached to the correct record.
* Always close out or remove a serial control record on the obsolete record and add a new serial control on the new record

When items are attached to an incorrect or obsolete serial record:

  • Email all libraries with items attached to the wrong bibliographic record, explaining the situation.
  • The cataloger reporting the issue has the option to move other libraries' items or not, but they must communicate that to the others.
  • It is a good idea to make sure call numbers have the appropriate volume information (conforming to any pattern established on the other record) before moving items.
  • Make sure any serial holdings records are attached to the correct record.
