Guidelines for Literary Form in Polaris

DBM 1-8-18: The Literary Form facet in PowerPAC is populated by the Literary Form fixed field. Database Management Committee reviewed recommendations from both the PAS and Technical Services Advisory groups.

  • For print materials only, libraries will assign at minimum a literary form of either 0 (Not fiction) or 1 (Fiction).
  • Libraries can use more specific values Short stories, Poetry, etc.) if desired.
  • It is recommended that novels should be coded as 1 for Fiction instead of f for novels.
