Required projects

The following are non-library-specific retrospective projects that libraries should work into their normal workflow as time & resources permit.

Ask the Database Manager if you need assistance with a particular project.

Urgent

  • There are currently no urgent projects that would take priority over one's normal workflow.

No specific deadline

  • Fix invalid GMDs & GMD qualifiers (so that they are indexed & display correctly now, can be more easily used for record analysis now, and can be more easily deleted when that time comes)

Optional projects

The following optional non-library-specific retrospective projects are opportunities for cleaning up the database and thereby improving the quality & reliability of user access, if you have the available time and manpower to do so.

Ask the Database Manager if you need help compiling a list of records that need editing or want to know more about what a particular project involves.

  • Delete "duplicate" 505 fields
  • Add 753 and possibly also 347 fields to PC games & other software
  • Add subject & genre headings to older records that currently have none at all
  • Check old "MacroFix" records against the actual item and what's in WorldCat to make sure the correct OCLC number & description were used, and clean up the record accordingly
  • Overlay any remaining records affected by the Smartport/006 bug
  • Change fictitious character headings from 650 to 600
  • Fix typos in ISBNs & ISSNs, or move them to 020 |z
